High School Archaeology in the Shawangunk Mountains

Today I taught in a college exploration program for High School students. We divided the students into two groups of 9 and 10, each of which excavated one day per week and spent two afternoons per week in the archaeology lab. We did not find a huge number of artifacts during excavation – a few retouch flakes and some hammer stones and adzes – but I hope that they have learned how to do archaeology correctly.  I will be continuing work at the site with 3 of my Vassar College students during the month of August.
