Take Part!

The Day of Archaeology 2014 will be held on Friday 11 July!

Interested?

We are looking for people working, studying or volunteering in the archaeological world to participate with us in a “Day of Archaeology” in July 2014.  The resulting Day of Archaeology website will demonstrate the wide variety of work our profession undertakes day-to-day across the globe, and help to raise public awareness of the relevance and importance of archaeology to the modern world. We want anyone with a personal, professional or voluntary interest in archaeology to get involved, and help show the world why archaeology is vital to protect the past and inform our futures.

How You Can Help

We are looking for archaeologists who are able to document their day and send it to us to publish here on the Day of Archaeology website. You can do this through any medium that you are comfortable with, be it writing about, filming, recording or photographing your day.

If you can’t make the date in July 2014, you can still contribute up to a week before or after the Day of Archaeology itself.  If you would like to take part but don’t feel confident writing a blog or uploading photos, audio or film, please get in touch with us at the email address below, and we will help.

How to Sign Up

Email us at dayofarchaeology [at] gmail.com if you would like to sign up. You can also find out more about exactly what to do for the blog on the ‘Contributors Guidelines‘ page.

Great idea, would happily be involved and I’m sure you’ll get a lot of keen archaeologists (even those who have defected).

  2. Lorna Richardson says:

Thanks Jeff – if you can email your details to dayofarchaeology[at]gmail.com, we’ll add you to the list!

  3. Hayley says:

I’d be keen to get involved, I work as a commercial archaeologist and will most likely be on site on the 29th July. I might be able to rope several other staff members in, or make it a company wide project. I’ll think on it and speak to management but please keep me up dated.

PS there is a small problem with the website- the box for the random words covers up part of the message box which makes it hard to type.

  7. What an absolutely charming idea! I am a self-employed archaeologist in the Netherlands, so this could mean that I have no work to show for on the 29th of June, but I would love to get involved.
You may most certainly count me in.

    greetings from Leiden,

    Yannick Raczynski Henk

  8. Interesting one. Unfortunately it is very unlikely I will join as I am not in archaeology domain now, but I posted this event to my Japanese colleagues. So perhaps you may get something from them. Good luck!

Fantastic idea! I’m not employed in archaeology right now (sad face) but am doing some voluntary work behind a computer screen with databases/mapping so shall sign up right away!

This is an excellent idea! I work with a CRM firm in Canada and we’d love to contribute :)

  14. Heather MacLeod-Leslie says:

I’ll check with my bosses to see if I can participate – I work for a First Nation Negotiations Office in Canada and would love to, but much of what I do is subject to an oath of confidentiality, so I’ll check with them to see if I can. I hope they say yes – what a super idea!

  16. Suzanne says:

Just emailed the members of our community archaeology group to see if they are interested in being involved. Handily it falls right in the middle of our summer season!
Also we are going to be busy digging a trench tomorrow rather than sitting in front of the wedding!

this is so wonderful, both as a bonding session for the profession AND as a message outwards. there should be quite a few people in the field then in New England (USA), and hopefully we can spread the word. I’ll be doing some oral histories and fieldwalking with the elders of the town that I am working in, in Massachusetts…..so sign me up!
